Niko Tamurian is the Sports Director at CNY Central. During football and basketball season, Niko reports the latest in Syracuse sports with the help of his co-star, Jack the Sports Dog. Niko joined the CNY Central team in 2007.

The Syracuse Press Club has honored Niko with several awards including Newcomer of the Year in 2008 and Best Sports Story and Best Sports Show in 2009.

It has been Niko’s dream to report on the sports teams that he grew up rooting for. A true New Yorker, Niko is a die-hard Syracuse University sports fan and roots for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, and the New York Yankees and Knicks.

Niko grew up in East Syracuse and earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo. In addition to rooting for all of his favorite sports teams, Niko enjoys playing golf as a member at Olde Oak in Kirkville and spending time with his family and friends.

• Why I'm a Journalist: Growing up as a Syracuse sports fan it was always my dream to be able to present comprehensive and extensive coverage of all the teams I grew up rooting for. It’s an honor to be able to tell the stories that compel you, as well as the stories of those athletes that sometimes get overlooked but are so special to our area.

• Hobbies: Watching my favorite teams, golfing, weightlifting, spending time with family and friends, walking Jack the Sports Dog
• Favorite Movie: All of the "Rocky" movies, especially "Rocky IV", "Independence Day", "Avatar", "The Express", so many others.

Series Over! Crunch sweeps Springfield   

It was during the 1st round of the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs that former Syracuse Crunch Announcer Bob McGelligott proudly proclaimed "I've got two words for ya, SERIES OVER!" That's true once again as the Crunch beat Springfield on Friday 5-2 and swept the Falcons out of the playoffs.

High School Lacrosse playoffs kicked off Thursday   

Section III Athletics is officially in postseason mode. Some sports already kicked off the playoffs but for boys lacrosse, the Section III Tournament officially started on Thursday.
