Brandon Roth is a general assignment reporter for Action News 3.
Brandon has reported from hot spots around the world. He most recently returned from Afghanistan, where he followed soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, as they searched for Osama bin Laden.
In 2003, Brandon was the only Central New York television reporter to travel to Kuwait and interview local troops. He was in Kuwait City when the war started, and spent two days covering scud missile attacks on the city.
On September 11, 2001, he was on the way to New York City within minutes of the terrorist attacks, and was one of the first local reporters to file a live report from the scene. He returned to ground zero the following year for a series of follow-up reports.
Brandon got his start as a military journalist with American Forces Network. In 1995, the Army sent him to Bosnia where he spent a year traveling around the country reporting on the conflict. After leaving the Army, Brandon's first reporting job was with KADY, in Oxnard, California. In 1997, he moved to Burlington, Vermont, where he reported for NBC affiliate WPTZ. From Vermont, Brandon headed south to New York City and worked as a transit reporter for NY1 News.
In 1998, WSTM became his new home. Many of Brandon's reports have earned him honors, including five Syracuse Press Club Awards.
Brandon received a Bachelor's Degree in communications from Cornell University, and a Master's Degree in Journalism from Columbia University.
When he's not working, Brandon loves playing sports and enjoying the outdoors. He's married and lives in Liverpool with his wife Yvonne, and their very spoiled cat Ashley.
