Doppler T. Weathercat accompanies chief meteorologist, Wayne Mahar, on the Weather Deck during various weekday newscasts. When he’s not ‘working,’ Doppler is the official greeter in the CNY Central lobby.

Doppler’s legacy began in 1996 when a stray cat wandered onto the Weather Deck during the 11 p.m. newscast. The stray was not with CNY Central for long, but the team’s love for animals spawned the tradition of Doppler T. Weathercat.

Doppler was a rescue, adopted from the Central New York SPCA. CNY Central viewers were encouraged to suggest potential names for the team’s four-legged friend. More than 10,000 suggestions later, he became known as Doppler The Weathercat.
