It is very important for you to be prepared before you take part in any career fair. Thanks to CNYWorks and the NYS Department of Labor, here are some resources to help you make the most of Operation: Hired. For more information about the event, click here.

Quick Tips

Before the Event:
-Find out what businesses will be there and spend some time doing some research on them. (ex. What jobs do they have open? What kind of people are they looking for?)
-Think of some questions you'd like to ask prospective employers.
-Proofread your resume at least twice.
-Update your contact information on your resume.
-Bring copies of your resume to give to employers.

At the Event:
-Dress the part. How you represent yourself shows the employer how serious you are in your job search.
-Take a few minutes and talk to employers. Don't just drop your resume and move on. It is important to make an impression.
-Use the research you've collected beforehand to support your confidence and knowledge. It will show if you did your homework and employers will be impressed.
-Have a firm handshake and maintain eye contact. Employers appreciate dedication and attentiveness.

After the Event:
 - Send thank you notes. If you picked up business cards from employers you spoke to, send them a note thanking them for their time a day or two after the event. This leaves a positive impression on the employers.
