OSWEGO -- The Oswego County Health Department tells Action News that it has received additional H1N1 flu vaccine and is accepting calls for appointments from people who are in priority groups for receiving the vaccine. According to the department, both the injectable vaccine and the nasal spray vaccine are available.
Residents in priority groups for whom the H1N1 vaccine is highly recommended may call for an appointment. The county's website has a list of who is considered a 'priority'.
To make an appointment for the H1N1 flu vaccine, residents should call the Health Department Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at 349-3572 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3572.
The county says that there is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine.
The Oswego County Health Department anticipates that it will continue to receive additional shipments of H1N1 vaccine over the next several months and will notify the public as it becomes available. The above telephone number will also carry a message regarding availability of influenza vaccine.
In other flu news, the Onondaga County Health Department is now offering seasonal flu shots, but only if you have made a prior appointment.
Because of the limited amount of vaccine doses that the Health Department has received, they will not be accepting walk-ins this year.
Again, vaccines will only be given to people who have already scheduled an appointment. These shots are for the typical seasonal flu, not the H1N1 "swine" flu. According to Onondaga County, their allocation of H1N1 vaccine has already been distributed to area hospitals for dispensation, although they say that they are expecting more shipments in November.
If you are looking to get a seasonal flu shot, the Health Department suggests you call your personal health care provider. You can also visit the Flu Clinic Locator to find a flu shot clinic in your area.
