ONONDAGA COUNTY -- Voters will head to the polls Tuesday on Election Day. For the first time, Kathaleen Underwood of Skaneateles will bring something with her. Underwood says, "Definitely the wipes and some kind of spray."
Elections officials estimate about 100,000 to 115,000 people will be voting in Onondaga County. But with flu concerns spreading, and people trying not to get sick, will some skip voting all together?
"We're hoping not," says Onondaga County Elections Commissioner Ed Ryan. "Obviously, people can find a reason to do something or not to do something."
Voters using the traditional lever machine or an optical scan paper ballot will be touching surfaces other people touch. Hand sanitizer and wipes will not be provided at polling places in Onondaga County so if voters want it, they better bring it.
People who are sick can have someone can pick up an absentee ballot for them until Monday at 5pm at the board of elections. On Election Day, they would need a court order.
