SYRACUSE -- With Thanksgiving a little more than a week away, many people are packing their bags and getting ready to visit friends and family. Some will drive, others will fly. Increased traffic at Syracuse International Airport is good news for the economy, but could it be bad for your health?

With the recent threat of the H1N1 "swine flu" virus, the airport isn’t taking any chances. According to Christina Reale, the airport's public relations officer, employees have installed hand sanitizers in every single rest room. They have also added more steps to their cleaning process. “We have added a couple of cleaning products that are anti-viral, anti-bacterial. We are especially targeting doorknobs, sinks, and rest rooms. We have amped up our cleaning,” says Reale.

Along with the new cleaning regime, the Transportation Security Administration is doing their part. They are following the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, the Onondaga County Health Department, and the New York State Health Department. They say the H1N1 virus will not compromise their security routines.

One traveler we spoke with is a student in the area. Bryce Popple says he is not worried about getting the virus while flying. “I have been sitting in a class room with a bunch of people, and I haven’t gotten it. So it’s just like sitting on a plane,” says Popple.

If you are traveling this holiday season, remember to wash your hands regularly, cover your cough, and if you do have the flu, stay home!
