Wednesday, on Syracuse's westside, a crew was working on deconstructing an old house.
The house, on Marcellus Street, was just one of the 1200 properties the city of Syracuse has ordered to come down.
Today's event was run by the Syracuse Center of Excellence and the Deconstruction Initiative.
Kevin Stack, of Northeast Green Building Consulting says, the plan is to not send any of the deconstructed materials to landfills, and recycle everything instead.
Stack said, "We're gonna try and recycle, reuse, and salvage everything in this house we possibly can. What we like to say is these are actually resources for our homes of the future."
Scrap metal will be returned, in exchange for cash, to pay for the projects, and all the wood will be shredded and returned to the site as mulch.
