October is Fire Prevention Month, for a reason: with the move indoors we are using more heating, starting up the fireplace, and decorating with candles--all potential fire hazards.  Gordon Kotars, with the Firemen's Association of the State of New York, reminds to check utilities, and chimneys and flues before using-and to never burn candles in an empty room.  He also reminds about 'EDITH"..the routine to develop with family so that everyone knows exits out of a home, and how to meet up once outside.  For more, www.FASNY.com
