They're an evil menace and hide in just about every american house, not just "haunted houses" during "the scary season". They're "power vampires" They bite your outlet and drain your electricity.
Celia Kuperszmid Lehrman, from Consumer Reports says, "an energy vampire is a product that uses energy even when it's turned off"
These power vampires include everyday electronics like tvs and cell phone chargers. The biggest energy vampires just might put a -scare- in every parent. Celia Kuperszmid Lehrman continues "Video games are among the worst offenders. Just by turning them off when your kids aren't playing them, you can save about $125 a year"
Another power dracula that's a master of disguise are high definition televisions.
Kelvin Fernandez, from the Geek Squad says "When you buy a new tv, the color settings are jacked up all the way on high." Experts say dial down the color mode from "showroom" to "home" mode. You'll save power and money.
And don't forget about your computer. Put your laptop or desktop in "sleep" or "hibernate" mode when you're not at the keyboard or awake. Fernandez advises "So in essence, when you're sleeping, you're computer's sleeping as well, and it's not draining unwanted power."
