With the hustle and bustle of daily life, throw in a new baby and going green is probably the last thing on a new mom's mind.
Emily Blakeney, founder of ecomom.com says, "But often it's right up in your face about the food that you're feeding them, about the toys that they're playing with. Are they leeching? are they toxic? are they safe?"
Emily Blakeney is the chief product officer for ecomom.com. She knows what works and why green is her number 2 concern. "The first thing I do is I take away the word green and I replace it with, 'what's the best decision I can make for my kid?'" says Blakeney. She's got two of them, both girls, 1 and 5.
"When my first daughter was born, I was like, 'I need to make some changes. This is incredible. I really care about the things going in, on, and around my baby." says Blakeney. And soon after, ecomom.com was born.
Emily and three others first developed the site selling organic baby food from a guest bedroom and then branching out to diapers, new toys, soaps, and clothes. They moved their offices to Culver City where the site continues to act as an online store where each product is checked out and matched with US and European standards.
Blakeney continues, "I know that a team of people really investigated to make sure that these are the right products."
For the horde of mom bloggers who upload videos on Youtube praising the site, it's their one-stop shop in a busy day with baby. From Youtube postings: "These are the products that I have grown to trust." "I found everything from organic foods, to sunscreen and bath products."
Emily Blakeney says, "I do the work necessary so that I can pass it on to other people so that they don't have to spend their time doing the work."
