Questions & Answers
Question

What does an A&P Technician do?

Answer

Trained and certified A&P technicians are critical members of an aviation safety team. They provide required aircraft maintenance at regular intervals and are qualified to recognize and address potential aircraft malfunctions before they become dangerous. A&P technicians can work as aviation inspectors and provide valuable expertise in accident investigations.

Question

What will you learn in the MVCC A&P Program?

Answer

Our Airframe and Powerplant Technology program offers hands-on experience with real equipment.  Based on our Rome, NY campus, the majority of the A&P instruction will take place in our state-of-the-art aviation training center,  located at Griffiss International Airport just a few blocks away.  There, students will be surrounded by MVCC’s fleet of operational aircraft, including a Boeing 727-100; a military helicopter; a Piper Aztec; -a twin engine Cessna 310; and a variety of additional airframes as well as General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, and Allison/Rolls Royce jet engines, Lycoming and Continental reciprocating engines, as well as a variety of other aircraft equipment and system stimulators.

The MVCC Airframe and Powerplant Technology program is structured as a full-time, one-year training program. Full-time attendance is mandatory for each of the program’s three semesters, and enrollment is limited to 25 new students each semester.  The program will typically enroll new students in August, January, and April.

Question

How do you get started?

Answer

Call MVCC's Airframe and Powerplant Technology Program Director, Walt Constantini, at (315) 338-7826 for more details and application information. Prospective students have to file a standard MVCC Application for Admissions (click here for form) or at any MVCC campus (visit our website). You may also wish to contact the MVCC Admissions Office at (315) 792-5354.

Question

What does the program cost?

Answer

The A&P program is a unique training program, and so it has costs that are not traditionally associated with the low overhead a community college offers.  However, in just one year, the successful student will be on their way to a fulfilling career, completely equipped for work.

If you require, or are interested in seeking Federal or State grants and/or loans to pay for the costs, you must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), to determine your eligibility.  MVCC’s Financial Aid office is located on the Utica Campus in Payne Hall, (315-334-7727).  Program information and applications can also be found on the MVCC website, www.mvcc.edu, following the Student Services link to the Financial Aid page.

The College provides a payment plan option referred to as FACTS.  If you choose to enroll, do so by going to the MVCC website, www.mvcc.edu, and select the E-Cashier icon.  There is a non-refundable enrollment fee each semester.  Enrollment in the FACTS plan requires payments to be automatically deducted from a checking account, a savings account, or charged to a credit card on a regular basis.
