BUFFALO (AP) -- Several hundred students, teachers and parents from around New York state have wrapped up a rally in Albany, where they pressed Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislators for more state aid for schools.

The group arrived at the Capitol aboard buses Wednesday in a demonstration that organizers called the "Educate NY Now Express" tour.

Participants say the state's 700 districts are being forced to slash staffing and programs because of cuts in state aid for schools over the last few years and a property tax cap limiting what districts can raise through tax increases.

Cuomo says the $805 million, or 4 percent, increase he included in this year's budget is significant. He says he disagrees with the idea of raising taxes to fund bigger increases.
