'Parents don't always look at religion, they look at education'

Syracuse Diocese Parochial schools--22 of them--are starting to recruit for next year, as Catholic Schools Week gets underway

It is Catholic Schools week, with the 22 schools in the Diocese of Syracuse putting on special events and holding open houses.

Chris Mom'Piney, Superintendent of Schools for the Syracuse Diocese, says it's a good time for the parents of prospective students to take a look, and even sign up their children to shadow for a day, to see how they like the schools they're looking at.

Mominey says Catholic Schools offer an alternative to public education, with higher achievement  test scores the rule.  He says that's in part because of the Catholic philosophy that's woven into all curriculum, plus more family and parent involvement in the schools, and more teacher dedication.  14% of the students in Syracuse Diocese schools are non-Catholic, but, he says 'parents don't always look at religion, they look at education.'
