Business Type: In fitting with the works it houses, the Everson Museum building is a sculptural work of art in its own right. Designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei, the building itself is internationally acclaimed for its uniqueness. Within its walls, Everson houses roughly 11,000 pieces of art: American paintings, sculpture, drawings, graphics and one of the largest holdings of American ceramics in the nation.
Traditionally museums were houses, grand houses of princes and kings that held their collections of magnificent objects.
Question Will we be able to do anything hands on? Answer Yes. The Art Zone, located on the lower level, is the perfect place for kids to touch, learn and play. They can explore our clay station, dress up in costumes, draw, read and more. Answer Parking is available for a fee in several open lots adjacent to the museum. One is located across from the museum on Harrison Street. Another is located directly behind the museum on Townsend Street. In addition, there is enclosed parking available in the Oncenter parking garage, accessible off both Townsend and State Streets. Metered parking is available along Harrison and State Streets. On-street parking is free on Sundays. A small number of staff and handicapped parking spaces along Harrison Street are free to the public on weekends. Answer Yes. Strollers are permitted in the Everson’s galleries. Children may not be carried on the shoulders of another person or in a backpack child carrier. Backpacks are also not permitted, but lockers are available. Question How many objects are in the Museum's collection? Answer The Museum has over 11,000 in its collection. It houses one of the most comprehensive holdings of American ceramic art in the nation. Question How long should I plan to spend at the Museum? Answer We generally recommend allowing at least 2-3 hours for your visit.
