ALBANY -- The New York State Public Service Commission announced today that it will be performing an independent and comprehensive audit of National Grid’s various natural gas companies.

The audit is in response to Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address, where he called for management and operations audits of New York’s utility companies, in the interest of providing the best, and most fair, service to customers across the state.

“These comprehensive audits will help ensure that utilities are properly running their businesses and are using the most modern and cost-effective programs and techniques to provide customers with safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates,” said Chairman Garry Brown.

A Request for Proposal will be issued to National Grid, giving the exact scope and timetable of the audit, which will be performed by an independent consultant. That consultant will be looking into the efficiency of National Grid’s natural gas companies, including how efficiently they are managed and operated. A final report is expected to be in by May 2014.

The audit will focus on a series of nine points, including understanding the roles and responsibilities of the corporations’ leadership in how they provide goals and objectives.
