NORTH SYRACUSE -- January is a big month for the American Red Cross.

Not only is it National Blood Donor Month, it's also the start of its 6th annual "Give a Pint, Get a Pound" campaign. That's a joint effort between the Red Cross and Dunkin' Donuts.

Everyone who donates blood this month will receive a voucher for a free pound of their favorite coffee, which they can redeem at any Dunkin' Donuts store.

Friday morning, local representatives from the Red Cross kicked off the campaign at the Dunkin' Donuts at 818 North Main Street in North Syracuse.

Faithful platelet donor John Ryan was recognized for his 40 years of dedication. Since he started giving blood at 18, Ryan has donated 560 times. He now gives platelets, which help people of all blood types.

To schedule an appointment to donate, call the American Red Cross at 1-888-RED CROSS, or visit the Red Cross website.
