NEW YORK -- The Daily News reports that Time Warner Cable has been slammed with two class-action lawsuits for charging a monthly lease fee for their modems.

Papers were filed in New York and New Jersey on Wednesday detailing how customers feel the fee is illegal because Time Warner failed to notify customers within 30 days of the fee’s application, according to the New York Daily News.

Locally, customers showed their own dismay over the new fee and many said they had no idea it was coming.

"I don't think it's fair at all," Patricia Byers, a Mattydale resident says. "They should tell you all the charges... that are going to be charges."

Even with the indication that Time Warner would use the millions in new revenue to improve its infrastructure and service, customers are frustrated.

"The cable bills are high enough right now," subscriber Kenneth Welsh says. "I just don't think they need to make that much profit."
