“Welcome to Doppler’s Digest!”
Hi everyone! If you don’t recognize me, my name is Doppler… or “Doppy” as my best buddies here at WSTM call me. I’m probably best known as “The Weather Cat” here at Channel 3 and Wayne Mahar’s right hand man.
Many viewers have said they haven’t seen me hanging out on the weather deck lately and that’s because (just between us) I hate the cold and snow! My poor little feet just can’t take it! I would much rather hang out in my cozy little room here at the station or wander into the newsroom, where I’ll no doubt get lots of love. I promise you’ll see a lot more of me outside with Wayne once I can bask in the warm Syracuse sunshine.
My days are pretty jam packed, between choosing which toys I’m going to play with, greeting all the visitors who come to the station during the day and napping, but I figured there was no better way to let my fans know what I’m up to than to write my very own blog… or as I like to call it… ”Doppler’s Digest”!
I’ll update as often as I can and let all of you know just what I’ve been up to, my thoughts on life and whatever else you might want to know about the duties of being “The Weather Cat.” It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it! Oh, and don’t forget to check out my pictures…I’m kind of handsome don’t ya think?
I'm also on Facebook, so check out my profile there. It's Doppler Weathercat so don't forget to sign up and add me as your friend!

Doppler's Bio

We here at Action News 3 love animals, and just one of the ways it shows is with Doppler the Weather Cat.
It began in the summer of 1996, when a stray cat wandered onto the Weather Deck during our 11pm newscast. The cat must have enjoyed the bright lights of TV, because he returned every night after that. Unfortunately, the cat didn't survive very long. He wasn't ours, and got hit by a car on James Street. Trying to make something good out of this sad situation, we decided to adopt a cat.
We found another orange tabby, but this cat didn't enjoy the glare and glamour of TV, so we gave him to a senior center in Watertown where he and the seniors are very happy.
The third adoption proved to be the charm. We went to the SPCA Shelter and found the current Weather Cat. We needed a name, so asked viewers for suggestions. Over a three-week period, we received more than 10,000 cards and letters, and the number one choice was Doppler. Viewers can see Doppler with Wayne on the Weather Deck during various weekday newscasts. When he's not 'working,' he's our official greeter in the WSTM lobby, or lounging in his custom-decorated room here at 1030 James Street.
Doppler wants to remind you of the WSTM/Stack Hospital for Pets Lost and Found Animal Hotline. If you have lost or found an animal, call the Hotline at 477-9640. With the help of the Stack Animal Hospital for Pets in Fayetteville, we are able to reunite pets and owners almost every day!
Doppler also has a favorite website that he visits when he is not blogging or performing his other official duties. It is the home page of the Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and you can link to it HERE. Doppler and the CNY SPCA would appreciate it!
