BRISTOL, CT -- On Monday, Syracuse Orange basketball coach Jim Boeheim visited ESPN's campus as part of promotional efforts for the Infiniti Coaches' Charity Challenge, and was asked by SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm about forward James Southerland's status.
Southerland was held out of the team's 72-61 win over Villanova on Saturday for what the University is calling an "eligibility matter."
Boeheim said that the situation is "troubling," as Southerland's benching is the second such eligibility issue for the team in the past two seasons. Former center Fab Melo was also ruled ineligible twice last season.
However, Boeheim seemed to indicate that we could see Southerland back on the court this season.
"This is something that could be resolved, said Boeheim. "It is an issue you have to go through, and James is going through it."
Boeheim added "It is most troubling because you feel bad for the individual kid and what he has to go through, not what I am going through and what the team goes through. We will get through it and, hopefully, James will get through this."
The sixth-ranked Orange are off this week, and next play at new #1 Louisville on Saturday.
