SCHENECTADY (AP) -- Authorities say a 43-year-old old upstate New York woman has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of her 8-year-old grandson.
Police in Schenectady tell local media outlets that Gloria Nelligan was charged Sunday after an autopsy was conducted as part of the investigation into Sha'hiim Nelligan's death.
Officials say the boy was found unresponsive by family members in their Schenectady home Saturday morning. He was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police haven't disclosed details about the boy's injuries or how the grandmother allegedly contributed to his death.
Authorities say Nelligan is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning.
