NEW YORK (AP) -- New York's Catholic Conference is stepping up its opposition to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal to expand abortion rights under a women's rights package of bills.

Kathleen Gallagher of the New York State Catholic Conference says the Democrat is trying to pass the abortion bill that has been stalled in the Legislature by linking it with measures to protect women's rights in the work place and stop discrimination.

On Friday she said the packaging of all the measures is "radical and far out of the mainstream, even by the standards of New York."

Cuomo is proposing a 10-point plan to assure women have equal pay and equal opportunity at work. The package also addresses human trafficking in the sex trade and the expansion of abortion rights.
