Camp Good Days, needy families will benefit, donations still needed
High School students fundraise for the privilege of dance marathoning
When students begin dancing next weekend, the hard work will be behind them: they need to be successful fundraisers to even get on the dance floor.
East Syracuse-Minoa is staging its first dance marathon on Friday night, to benefit families in the community that are in need.
Fayetteville-Manlius High School has been at this for 21 years, with its marathon profits going to Camp Good Days and Special Times.
Elaina Atallah has been marathoning for all four years of high school, and this year will be an emcee--the privilege comes with having raised more than a thousand dollars (fifty is the minum to be able to dance). She's still spending time going door to door, looking for more donations. She says she has a special connection because she also served as a counselor at Camp Good Days, on Cayuga Lake, last summer, and met campers--children with cancer or who'd lost a relative to cancer. Atallah says she was especially touched, as the campers left, that they wanted to come back next year--and she wants to ensure there IS a next year.
Fayetteville Manlius and East Syracuse-Minoa's marathons are also accepting donations from the general public, with information on their school dance websites.
