We have activity ideas, and care ideas, too
Winter break can be a challenge for childcare, even with all the activities (we have the list!)---we also have help for finding good care.
Winter Break offers all kinds of activities for families and children, while school is out of session for the coming week. Check our list of ideas!
But, if you cannot get off work while the kids are home, or if you need longer term childcare beyond this break week, what to do?
We spoke with Tonia Thornton at Child Care Solutions, which serves both Onondaga and Cayuga Counties by providing "information and resources to parents, providers, employers, and community leaders who seek solutions to their child care needs."
Thornton says that finding a good provider is like buying a house---some things you must have, and some you decide whether you can compromise or not.
She says that parents have to decide what they want in a provider--a nanny, or a homework supervisor, or an activities coordinator (or a combination)--and then stick with it. People who have their guidelines, and then cave to 'someone down the street' make for stressful and unsuccessful arrangements, she says.
