CORTLAND -- The New York Jets held their 2012 training camp at SUNY Cortland and it generated more than $5.5 million in economic activity for Cortland County, readMedia reports.

The $5.5 million number is according to an economic impact study done by three SUNY Cortland faculty members.  The report was released this week.

The figure it's just slightly less than the $5.8 million that was the estimated impact of the 2010 camp, and there were fewer than half as many public practices held this summer due to the league's new collective bargaining agreement.

The report was done by SUNY Cortland Professor of Economics Kathleen Burke, Assistant Professor of Geography Wendy Miller and Associate Professor of Economics Timothy Phillips.  Training camp visitors were surveyed along with local business owners.  the camp ran from July 28th to August 15th.
