LYNCOURT -- The man responsible for the death of his girlfriend in a drunk driving incident in 2003 was sentenced Thursday for a separate case of drunk driving.

Joseph Bertrand was sentenced to 2 to 6 years in state prison for felony DWI in Onondaga County Court after he arrested again in June.

Police say, Bertrand got his drivers license after the previous conviction on June 8 and was arrested for DWI the next day. He was also charged with speeding and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Bertrand was convicted of second degree manslaughter in 2003 for the death of Michele Lozipone, his girlfriend. Police say Bertrand ran over Lozipone in December 2003 on Swansea Avenue in Lyncourt after she got out of his car due to his erratic driving.

Bertrand, whose blood alcohol was twice the legal limit, was convicted of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and driving while intoxicated. He served four years in state prison and was released in 2008.

Bertrand pleaded guilty in November to felony DWI. He will have to have one of those interlock devices on his car when he is released - if he is ever allowed to have a license again.
