MANLIUS -- The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is increasing security in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting and refocusing its efforts on security measures already in place.

"We do have lockdown procedures in place," said Superintendent Corliss Kaiser. "We do have security at the entrances of each of our buildings. The district this year employed a School Information and Resource Officer."

The district is also getting ready to install a new visitor ID system in all schools. It should be operational in Wellwood Middle School in early February and in all schools in March. The system will scan visitors' licenses, checking them against a national database to make sure no one dangerous enters the building.

Parents have been concerned about security since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. "We want to make sure our son is safe in this school," said Steve Crober, father of a student at Eagle Hill Middle School.

"I have to kind of plug along, send my children on to school," said mom Ashley Hammerich. "Not live in fear that we're going to close off in our homes and not be a part of our community and part of our schools. But obviously I'm concerned. What parent isn't concerned and scared for their child?"
