SYRACUSE -- Three neglected pit bulls were brought in the Dewitt Animal Hospital on Tuesday, according to a news release by local pit bull advocacy group Cuse Pit Crew.
The animals, which were deemed the “Three Musketeers” by Cuse Pit Crew member Stefanie Heath-Higgins, were brought in severely malnourished with bite marks and draining wounds, according to the release.
Nicole Smith, of the DeWitt Animal Hospital, says two of the dogs are males and one is a female. The dogs came from three separate locations and are 15 to 20 pounds underweight and between the ages of 2 and 7-years-old. One of the dogs also has parasites.
"They're pressure sores from either lying down in a crate or on a hard surface for a long period of time. His bones are sticking out so there's no fat to cover it," says Smith. "It's hard. You don't want to see anything in this condition. Just to know that someone deliberately did this to an animal, it's really hard to see."
Smith says the dogs will be up for adoption once they're doing better.
