I looked out the window and heard such a clatter. I opened the blinds to see what was the matter. No there weren't any reindeer... Not yet. But, there were big heavy wet snow flakes blowing in the stiff wind. There was even accumulation on the deck, the hood of the car and in the grass. The world had turned white almost as if we had suddenly pushed into late November or early December.
I've seen enough winters, I mean autumns, around here to know it is not too early to get some snow. In fact, you might call it a little late to get a bit of accumulation. This is Central New York after all.
By the way, it was a beautiful scene. Squirrels scurrying around storing up food. The geraniums getting a coating before I pulled in the flower boxes. The grass finally getting the message that it is alright to stop growing now.
This first coating only stuck around for a couple of hours. As the temperatures climbed into the middle 30's the new look faded imperceptibly. Over the next couple of days our meteorology guys say we could see high 50's and maybe even 60. As long as we are allowed to gently get reacquainted with winter we don't mind her return.
