The president and governor.

Matt's Memo blog from January 2011 about Governor Cuomo's presidential potential. More Matt's Memo blogs about Governor Andrew Cuomo.
We don't always know when an historic moment occurs. We don't always realize when one president is shaking hands with the next. Those instances come years before the future for a party's nominee is clear. This afternoon in Albany as President Barack Obama vigorously bounced on to the stage at the nanotechnology center he was greeted by one man: the governor of New York State, Andrew Cuomo. Could it be their handshake and brief man hug was one of those moments where the sitting president was in the same space as his successor?
We are six months away from Election Day where the voters will choose between President Obama, Mitt Romney and perhaps Ron Paul. And, then we're another four years away from the next presidential campaign, so all kinds of world and national events could alter the political course. But, should the Obama administration move into a second term at the White House Andrew Cuomo will instantly top the short list of democratic choices for 2016.
Cuomo has succesfully rebuilt his once tarnished political image with a highly successful initial term in the governor's mansion in Albany. He has shaken his father's political burden of being too liberal for national success by alligning with republicans to pass measures not always popular with his own party. He has shown his own skill in political rhetoric.
There he was today standing side by side the president. You can't help but wonder if it's an image will pull out again in a few years to remember when.
