A polar plunge this holiday weekend may have your family inside by a warm fireplace, but the ski industry thinks otherwise. There are plenty of New York State ski areas where snow making had begun before this cold snap and look to open this weekend. Other Central New York areas are a good bet to open next weekend after several nights of good snowmaking.

If you are a downhill skier and like to visit some of the bigger mountains to our northeast and east, you have to check out this new forecast website. Most weather forecasts you see on the web or television newscasts are made for where people live. Not many people live up in the high elevations of New York and Vermont so they go largely without a specific forecast. I’ve included a couple of screen grab images from the NWS website.
