Friends of the Zoo completes $1 million donation to Onondaga County

SYRACUSE -- The Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park says it made its fifth and final payment, of $221,588, to Onondaga County Parks to complete its $1 million commitment to the Parks for Tomorrow II initiative.

The Friends of the Zoo support the zoo buy providing educational programming and fundraising.

The money was given to Onondaga County Parks, which operates the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

The Friends of the Zoo raised $1,730,771 in a campaign to support the construction of the Asian Elephant Preserve, the Primate Park and Gatherings, and other educational components and exhibit enhancements.

“This was the community’s campaign,” said Janet Agostini, president of Friends of the Zoo in a release. “More than 350 individuals, foundations, corporations and small businesses contributed, helping us complete projects that are an important foundation for the continued growth of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.”
