Some National Grid customers could see their bills go up, others could see their bills go down. It depends on whether you have gas or electric.
National Grid submitted a proposal to the Public Service Commission that it says would stabilize energy delivery rates into 2014.
The company wants to increase electric delivery rates by about $131 million. National Grid says this would then be offset by about $190 million that would be removed from rates as past costs are retired, so overall those customers would save.
National grid also wants an increase of about $40 million for its natural gas delivery business, which would be partially offset by a decrease in other costs.
So what does this mean for your bill? According to the company, a decrease for most electric customers. The typical residential customer would see their bill go down about $1.74/month. Gas customers would see their bill go up by almost $1.88/month. A spokesperson for National Grid says if you have both electric and gas, you would be paying about 14 cents more a month.
That proposal still needs the ok of the new york state public service commission. If approved, it wouldn't go into effect until next year.
