(AP) -- The state Board of Elections has approved a new voting machine despite a citizens' committee that advised them many disabled voters wouldn't be able to use it.

The board approved the Liberty Election Systems machine Wednesday for temporary and experimental use. The decision came after after one independent testing group determined it was technically functional, but a separate committee determined it didn't meet federal voting law standards for use by the disabled.

The Citizens' Election Modernization Advisory Committee was created by state statute to advise the board about whether new machines conform to federal election laws created after the contested 2000 presidential election.

So far, only Hamilton County has ordered a Liberty machine.
