SYRACUSE -- Local leaders dedicated a new room today at Hancock International Airport to the men and women on the frontlines, who put their lives at risk to keep Americans safe. The “Corporal Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room” will provide active military with a quiet place to relax and enjoy a snack while waiting for their flight. They can also catch a nap in reclining chairs. There is a coffee maker and refrigerator stocked with refreshments. The furniture and equipment were all donated. The City of Syracuse is charging only a $1 a year for rent. This morning, Mayor Driscoll gave that dollar back to help volunteers maintain the room. The room is named for Corporal Gregory J. Harris, a local Marine who was captured during the Vietnam War and is still unaccounted for. The room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and all active members of the military are welcome.

Your coverage of this memorable event was excellent !! It is rewarding to know that our weary military will have a place to R&R while in Syracuse -- "hats off " to those who made it happen !! The children who attended from Cleveland Elementary gave the ceremony a special "touch" as did the "Missing Man Ceremony" --- WOW! How moving and emotional--- thanks for your excellent coverage--- would like to see more --- Thank You !!!
