(AP) -- New Yorkers are happy campers.

That's according to the state Office of Parks and Recreation, which says camping reservations are up for the year despite wet weather and high gas prices. Officials say it's been one of the most successful camping seasons on record and it's expected to continue into the holiday weekend.

As of Thursday, about 7,700 campsites, cabins and cottages had been booked for the three-day Labor Day weekend and there are still some sites available for last-minute campers.

Parks Commissioner Carol Ash says advance campground reservations are up over four percent compared to last year. The agency oversees 67 campgrounds in the state.
