Gustav to arrive: Residents living along the gulf coast are preparing for Hurricane Gustav. The category 3 hurricane is expected to make landfall at some point today. Bands of rain from the hurricane are already coming down in New Orleans. Louisiana officials say 90% of residents living on the coast have evacuated, but police say 100,000 people are still there. The national hurricane center says if the current path remains perfect, New Orleans could be spared.
RNC affected by Gustav: Hurricane Gustav is affecting the Republican National Convention. President Bush and Vice President Cheney will not be addressing the convention today as scheduled. Instead, the two will be in Texas with evacuees from the storm. Today's opening events have also been shortened. Presidential candidate John McCain says it's time to shift the focus from the party event to the potential disaster.
Homicide investigation: An investigating is underway into the death of an 11-year-old girl. State Police are labeling her death a homicide. Erin Maxwell was taken to the hospital on Friday after emergency crews responded to a medical call at her house in Palermo. She died a short time later from her injuries.
Baby lullabies: Getting a baby to sleep when you want them to is never easy. We've found a website that gives lullabies a new twist. www.rockabyebabymusic.com is home to a company that takes famous songs and turns them into lullabies. You can purchase CDs of songs by many popular artists. Each album costs around $17, but they can also be found cheaper using iTunes. You can also hear samples of each song on their website.
