Stores may be adding fewer jobs at holiday time than normal this year. That's according to a new study by the employment services company manpower. They found that 13 percent of companies surveyed expected to reduce their payrolls by the end of the year- the highest reduction in five years.
But not all stores are following the trend. Joe Dougherty owns Toyland, a specialty toy shop. He's planning on opening five new stores for the holiday season, and he'll hire season workers to staff them. If the move seems risky, Dougherty says "There is no specialty toy store in Syracuse so we kind of filled the void or niche if you will for Syracuse."
When it comes to larger retailers, a Target spokesperson told Action News they planned to hire the same number of seasonal employees this year as in previous years.
