Two years after 9/11, caterers from the Syracuse area made a trip to Gander, Newfoundland to say 'thank you' to the many people in that community who opened their doors, to people stranded when the United States closed its airspace after the attacks.
Theresa and Dan Seeley did not go alone: they took the fixings for a giant party, for the community's 10-thousand residents.
"We were inspired by what they did," says Theresa. "And maybe somewhere down the road they can see what we've done to thank them, and keep it going in the same manner."
"It took a lot from us emotionally, physically, financially, to have it all come together, and to see it come to fruition and see it be so successful, was great," says Dan.
The Seeleys have done other community events, most recently the big Tully fundraiser for Olympian Lopez Lomong's family and coach---but this one still has a special place in their hearts.
Dan told us from his Diamond Catering at the Mill that they hope to go back to Gander, maybe next year---the community holds a giant potluck party in the fall, and the Seeleys may just take along some more Central New York food.
