SENECA FALLS, SENECA COUNTY -- The author of a new book about women who changed America told a Central New York audience Wednesday night that 2008 was a seminal year for women in politics, but there's still a long way to go.

Jill Tietjen is the author of "Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America. Tietjen spoke to a crowd at the Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls Wednesday and said the candidacies of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin means women have real, viable candidates contesting for the nominations of their party. She says it's a real step forward.

Tietjen admits though that women have not reached parity with men in government positions, but adds that women have to run for office to make it so. Tietjen says we're getting closer to more women considering runs for office, but says it may be another ten to twenty years before the United States is willing to elect a woman as president.
