SYRACUSE -- Icy roads and blowing snow caused havoc for drivers across Central New York on Monday. A number of fender-benders were reported throughout the region. Several tractor trailers jackknifed on Interstate 81 near Brewerton. Another accident brought traffic to a crawl on Interstate 690 near the city. Even one of WSTM's own crews got into a minor fender bender. Fortunately no one was hurt and there were no major accidents.
Michael Johnson, head instructor at Branch's Driving School, says when the roads get like this drivers, especially those in larger vehicles need to take extra precautions. "You've got to slow down give yourself more time to react and always be aware of the area around you," Johnson says.
