NEW YORK -- WSTM-TV has been nominated for an Emmy® award by the New York National Academy of Television Arts and sciences for the second consecutive year.  Anchor Matt Mulcahy won the nomination in the category of Writer: Short Form for a series of three promotional spots he wrote for Jazz Fest Live 2008 in June of last year.  WSTM is the only television station in the Syracuse market to be so honored this year. A team of photographers, editors, graphic artists and producers contributed to the nominated entry.

The other four nominees in this same category come from New York City based television stations NYC TV, WPIX TV, WNBC and WNET. The nominees were announced this morning in New York City at the studios of CUNY-TV.  Among the stations receiving multiple nominations are MSG, WABC, YES Network, WCBS, WNBC, WABC, WPIX and WNYW.

Last year Matt was nominated in the category of On Camera Talent: News Anchor.  This is his fifth Emmy® nomination.  He is a past winner for a anchoring and producing a documentary entitled Bosnia: Returning Home.

The 52nd Annual New York Emmy® Awards will be presented at a Black Tie Gala on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at The Marriott Marquis in Times Square.

Below you will find the entry description:

The copy, integration of music and use of location all captured the rhythm, tone and energy of Jazz Fest Live 2008. The words, the images and the movement all grew from the writer's concept of 25 years of Jazz Fest in the Syracuse community. This three spot campaign shared the essence of three unique locations that Jazz Fest has called home. The spots turn midway through from a look back to the past to a view toward the future in an I-Pod era that threatens the appreciation of live performance.
