remember the late 80s, early 90s ice sculptures?

As we get ready to judge, and sample, chili and chowder in downtown Syracuse this weekend, it's fun to look back at Syracuse Winterfest's first years, when Clinton Square was turned into a giant snow castle, and ice and snow sculptures were all over the city.
Winterfest is one of several big events that have legacies here: Jazzfest has moved through several locations but continues to bring top talent to appreciative listeners. You can be Italian, German, Scottish Greek, or Irish for a day or a weekend. We pay tribute to Oz in Chittenango.
And Oswego's Harborfest, now looking at its 21st year, is still a huge summertime reunion and party.
And, there are many more parties and celebrations--Ithaca's Teacherfest, on this week, is another growing tradition. Any weekend you can find something to celebrate.
