We want to share with you some of the old programs, produced right here on NBC3.

The very first local shows here at NBC3 were done by the stars who were established in radio, like Deacon Doubleday.  But, TV was growing away from just being 'radio with pictures'.  Pioneers, like Jim Deline, interviewed celebrities who came through Syracuse, like Sophie Tucker and, also, brought a slice of life to Central New Yorkers. His successor, Denny Sullivan, brought in all sorts of guests through the sixties.

The longest running women's show in the country, Kay Russell's 'Lady's Day' ran weekday mornings 'til her death in the late seventies.  Ed Murphy worked mostly on radio but, weekday afternoons he hosted old movies with a daily quiz--remember the count and the amount?

Canyon Jack from Howdy Dowdy was, actually, Charlie Featherstone and he did the wraparounds to the westerns..and was not above a little horseplay, at the end of the show.  But, the wraparound show that everyone remembers is 'Monster Movie'. Bill Lape was 'Epal'...get it, lape spelled backwards.   And, you only heard Doctor Witte, and saw his hand.

We, also, bowled here.  Bowling for Dollars, from the seventies, was hosted by Joel Mareiniss for years,

We've done children's shows like the STM Club of the mid eighties with Dennis Bowman and Chester Drawers and a whole ensemble cast.

It's easy to say we don't do it like we used to, but we do just as much local programming now, with almost five hours of live news every day. A long way from the couple minutes of local news we started with

We get several requests a month for copies of some of those shows, especially from people who appeared on Bowling for Dollars or the Saturday kids shows.  They were never saved because, at the time, no one thought anyone would care...we know differently now!
