From the very beginning, commercials have been a part of what you see here at NBC 3.
Sponsors paid the bills on everything from network variety shows...to the locally produced programs. And it wasn't just in the billboards. It was not uncommon for stars to do commercial endorsements, too. And, it wasn't just in entertainment...the news people also did endorsements. John Cameron Swayze's Camel Caravan brought us pictures of the Korean War and also cigarette advertising which have been banned from TV since the 60s.
And car companies have bought more time than any other group, locally and nationally.
There were also musical pitches, lots of comedy and even more innuendo
