This week's Action News Archive is about a man who was a well known auctioneer here a couple decades ago.  And, in the spring of 1991, Doyt McGinnis had the event of a lifetime.

It's the first walk in the sunshine for this little foal, just about eight hours old. But, it doesn't take him long to find he's not the only baby around and, with a little help from owner Doyt McGinnis, the baby joins the other newborns---eight foals so far this year, two more within the month.

Most of the real work these days is being done by the stallion.  The proud papa gets a moment in the sun, too, something the little ones will get a lot of as they grow up. before their futures as Doyt's grandchildren's pet ponies...or to be sold at auction, as the Haflinger breed of draft ponies is established all over the northeast.

The Haflinger horse is native to Austria and was somewhat of a rarity here when we did the story in 1991.

Nowadays, you see a lot of them here in Central New York, in part because of people like the late Doyt McGinnis.
