ONEIDA, MADISON COUNTY (AP) -- A motorcade and memorial service are planned for a Central New York Marine killed last week in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Jeremy Lasher of Oneida died along with another Marine on July 23 in the southern province of Helmand, where Marines are spearheading a major offensive against Taliban forces ahead of upcoming elections.

The Department of Defense didn't release details on how he was mortally wounded.

A flight from Dover, Delaware carrying the 27-year-old Marine's body is expected to arrive at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Griffiss International Airport. His remains will be taken by motorcade to a funeral home in his hometown.

The local American Legion Post and fire department are urging people to turn out for the motorcade.

Following are the directions for the procession from Griffiss Airfield to Campbell-Dean Funeral Home:
>>From Griffiss Air field to Hanger Road
>>Take Hanger Road to Chestnut Street and turn left onto N. James Street
>>N. James Street becomes S. James Stree>>Take S. James Street to State Route 365, bear right going West
>>Take Rt. 365 into Verona to the intersection of 365 and Rt. 31
>>Turn left onto Rt. 31 heading toward Vernon
>>At Beacon Light Road (VVS High School on corner) turn right
>>Take Beacon Light Road past the casino golf course to Patrick Road
>>Turn right onto Patrick Road
>>Take Patrick Road to the intersection of Rt. 365 and turn left onto 365
>>Take 365 to Fox Road, turn right onto Fox
>>At the next intersection, turn left onto Hill Road
>>Take Hill Road into Oneida past the Verona Fire Department (Sconondoa FD)
>>At stop sign, continue straight onto Sconondoa
>>Go into Oneida and turn right onto Williams Street
>>Take Williams Street almost to the end turning left onto Monahan
>>Take Monahan to the stop sign and turn left onto Main Street
>>Proceed through the City of Oneida to the intersection of Washington and Cedar
>>Turn left at the Cedar Street light is and take a quick right onto MacArthur Pkwy.
>>Take MacArthur Pkwy to stop sign and cross Main Street to Stone Street
>>Take Stone Street to Broad Street and turn right
>>Take Broad Street to Washington Street, turn right
>>Take Broad Street to Main Street, turn right and to the funeral home

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, from New Beginnings Methodist Church, Route 5, Wampsville. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Oneida Castle Cemetery. Friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc. 260 Main Street, Oneida, on Friday from 1 - 7 PM.

Surviving are his wife, Andrea, and their son Caden S. Lasher at home;  

Contributions, in Jeremy’s memory, may be made to the Caden S. Lasher Educational Fund, c/o Oneida Savings Bank, 182 Main Street, Oneida, NY 13421. Envelopes for this fund may be obtained at the funeral home.

A reception immediately following the funeral service will be held at the Oneida American Legion.
