WOLCOTT, WAYNE COUNTY (AP) -- An upstate New York man is accused of attacking his own son with an axe.

State police in Wayne County say 51-year-old Paul M. Skilins Sr. was drinking and smoking marijuana with his 28-year-old son in the father's garage in Wolcott when the attack occurred. Troopers say the elder Skilins struck his son on the head with the handle portion of the ax, causing a severe laceration. Witnesses told police that the attack was unprovoked.

The son was taken to a Rochester hospital. The father was charged with assault and sent to the county jail on $10,000 bail.
