NEW YORK STATE -- Rumors that former Governor Eliot Spitzer may run for statewide office are gaining momentum after a newly released poll showed support for the former governor. More than half of those surveyed in the poll said they might vote for the ex-governor if he were to run for office.
Spitzer resigned last year after his involvement with a high priced prostitution ring was revealed.
Published reports indicate Spitzer may be considering a run for State Comptroller or the U.S. Senate. Bob McClure, a political science professor at Syracuse University's Maxwell School, says despite the polls, Spitzer would have a tough time if he were to attempt to return to public office. "Clearly, if Mr.. Spitzer decides to throw his hat back into the ring, it's going to be one tough introduction, reintroduction, back to the New York State Electorate.
What will be the outcome? "God only knows," he said.
