SYRACUSE -- Two local marching bands came up big at the New York State Field Band Conference.

West Genesee High School from Camillus and Baldwinsville's Charles W. Baker High School won Governor's Cups by finishing first in their divisions. Auburn High School's marching band also placed second in the Large Schools 3 category.

A total of 52 marching bands, including ten from Central New York, competed in the fourteen hour competition which brought more than 5,000 high school students from across the state to the Carrier Dome.

This is West Genesee's 30th state title and band members like Alyssa A'Hearn say the day was full of excitement. "All the bands that come here from all across the state. We started before eight in the morning and it is after eight at night now. It is an all day event. It is just awesome," she says.
